NATIVE AMERICAN, TURQUOISE & SILVER RING, SIZE 7+1/2, BY GRACE & GILO NAKAI – NAVAJO Here’s an absolutely gorgeous, turquoise & sterling silver, adjustable size ring from the workshop of the incredibly talented Navajo artists Grace & Gilo Nakai. If you’re a true afficiando of superior quality Native American jewelry you should be quite familiar with Grace & Gilo as they are amongst the best known names of all Native American jewelry artists. They have been making their jewelry for more than four decades and have collected just about every award available in their field. One of the things that sets the quality of the Nakai’s art above most others is the “bombing” technique that Gilo invented. Bombing is a process that removes the small amount of copper that is found in most silver. When copper remains in the silver it eventually works it’s way to the surface and causes discoloration which diminishes the beauty, quality and value of the jewelry. You can assured that this problem will never occur in their jewelry. This discoloration is not to be confused with the appearance of patina that is normal with sterling silver and can easily be removed with a silver polishing cloth. Grace & Gilo made this stunning ring with an adjustable band so the size can easily be adjusted to be larger or smaller than the size 7+1/2 it is now. The ring features nine turquoise stones that are set in silver bezels and are separated from each other with silver raindrop beads. It weighs 13 grams and it measures 1″ long and 3/4″ wide. The inside of the adjustable band is stamped sterling and has the Nakai’s hallmark. This wonderful example of handmade, superior quality, Native American craftsmanship will make a wonderful addition to your jewelry collection or a fantastic gift for that special someone in your life.
